Below is a list of various outside organizations that can help, if you are in need. Click the links to jump down to the section you’re interested in.


  • The United Way Austin has up to date resources with a search portal.

    Austin 2-1-1 is a free social service hotline available 24 hours a day.

    Austin 3-1-1 is a resource to help answer all general questions for more assistance. 

    Aunt Bertha is a website that matches qualified individuals with food, housing, transit, health/medical, education, and legal help.

  • VELA Do you have a child with a disability? Do you have questions about special education, therapies, and resources? Want to meet other families like yours? Join VELA to gain knowledge, empowerment, resilience and community. We provide hands-on courses, wraparound services and family events, to support you on your journey, at no cost to you (available in English and Spanish).

    At the Austin Public Library you can read, listen, download or stream eBooks, eAudiobooks, magazines, movies, music...and of course check out books! Visit the Library’s website for all details. The closest library branch to Magnolia is the University Hills Library.

  • Texas Workforce Commission allows parents/guardians to search for available child care near their home or work. It will display a map of licensed child care centers, licensed homes, and registered homes. It will show operating hours, along with the number of open spots for each age group.

    Workforce Solutions You can complete the eligibility form to determine if you are potentially eligible for child care assistance. Choose option #14 on the interactive map for Travis County.

  • Your Texas Benefits offers state benefit programs to help people with little or no money who are in need. They can help with SNAP food benefits, TANF (temporary assistance for needy families) cash help, health care, support services, and WIC (pre and post natal services)

    Great Mt. Zion Church Community Assistance and Referral Center provides utility and rent assistance to the community for financial emergencies. Call 512-469-9020 to be screened and apply over the phone.

    City of Austin Utilities: Customer Assistance Programs provides help for Residential customers who face temporary or long-term difficulties as well as serious medical problems.

  • Round Rock Service Center: Financial help with food, clothing, prescriptions and financial assistance. Apply online.

    Caring Place - Georgetown: Financial Assistance for those in our service area includes rent, mortgage, utilities, transportation, emergency dental and prescription assistance with a verifiable proof of crisis. You may also obtain a Food Pantry card from our office for use in the Food Pantry Across the street. Please call 512-943-0709 and leave a message regarding your need and someone will contact you within 48 business hours

  • Integral Care provides mental health services for adults, children and families both in-person and via Telehealth including 24/7 Crisis Care, Psychiatric Emergency Services, and Suicide Prevention. (512) 472-4357.

    Austin Child Guidance Center: Counseling services for children and families, accepting all major insurance plans and offer a sliding-fee scale . (512) 451-2242

    LifeWorks Counseling: Provides support for individuals and families who are struggling with issues such as family conflict, abuse, trauma, anxiety, depression, and the stress of everyday life. (512) 735-2100

    For the Love of Christi: Provides grief counseling and support groups at no cost. Services available for adults and children in English and Spanish. (512) 467-2600

    Out Youth: safe place for youth of all sexual orientations and gender identities to be themselves. Provides low-cost counseling and group drop-in programs. (512) 419-1233

  • Central Texas Food Bank: Provides food and resource programs, including help to apply for SNAP and state benefits, like Medicaid, TANF, Healthy Texas Women, Medicare Savings Program, CHIP and CHIP Perinatal. Click here to find the nearest food pantries near you.

    Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP/Food Stamps): Apply for SNAP online at https://yourtexasbenefits.com/Learn/Home#login. For help with the application, call the Central Texas Food Bank at 855-366-3401.

    WIC Program: Supplemental nutritional program for pregnant women, infants, and children under 5 years of age www.texaswic.org

    Double Up Food Bucks doubles the amount of Lone Star (SNAP), WIC, P-EBT and FMNP benefits individuals and families can spend on fruits and vegetables at farmers’ markets and mobile markets in Austin. Find a participating location on this map.

  • Covid-19 updates: The City of Austin’s Information page is the best place to get the most current information about the status of Covid-19 in Austin and Travis County. http://www.austintexas.gov/covid19

    COVID Testing: Austin Public Health (APH) operates several COVID-19 testing sites throughout Austin. You can sign-up for a test through the Public Testing Enrollment Form or through the APH Nursing Hotline (512-972-5560). When calling the Hotline press 1 for English, 2 for Spanish, 3 for Vietnamese and other languages. Hotline hours are Mon.-Fri. 8am-6pm and Sat. 9am-1pm. H-E-B also is a great place to check for available appointments at any H-E-B locations.

    CommUnityCare health centers provide primary and specialty care for low-income and/or uninsured individuals and families.

    Lawyer Referral Service of Central Texas: not-to-profit organization committed to helping individuals make the right call when looking for lawyers, legal resources, and community services in Austin, Texas. 512-472-8303 or 1-866-303-8303, www.austinlrs.com

    Volunteer Legal Services of Central Texas: no cost legal services for civil matters, such as consumer, employment, family housing, landlord-tenant, bankruptcy, expunctions, probate, real estate, property and wills. http://www.vlsoct.org/get-help/

    Austin Community Law: Sliding- scale fees based on clients’ income that are below what most others attorneys charge. Family law, misdemeanors, wills and probate, link here.

  • BASTA (Building and Strengthening Tenant Action or Buscando Acción y Soladaridad que Transforme el Arrendamiento) are advocates of tenant rights and connects tenants with rental assistance. Visit their website for COVID-19 tenant resources and other info.

    Asian Family Support Services of Austin: Call 1-877-281-8371
    AFSSA supports survivors of domestic violence & sexual assault with free, confidential services. Languages Spoken
    English, Chinese, Korean, Sign language, Spanish, Tagalog, and Vietnamese.

  • For free/low cost immigration legal resources try:

    American Gateways: New clients seeking services may call for a telephone legal screening: 512-478-0546 x 200. Provide a broad range of immigration legal services to low-income individuals and families throughout the region.https://www.americangateways.org

    RAICES provides affirmative, defensive, and litigation services to low-income immigrants. Legal services extend from low-cost residency and citizenship services to pro-bono representation for families and children in detention, with service offerings for Residency & Citizenship Services, Asylum Seekers, Removal Defense, DACA, Legal Representation for Family and Children, and more.
