Who are we?

The Library Squad is a group of parent volunteers with a vision to see beautiful, well-written, high-interest books available and accessible in each classroom. We are currently building 3 mobile library collections this year for children’s house,  lower el, and upper el. Both guides and kids in lower and upper el will be able to check out these books and then return to the library cart when finished.

Another exciting development on the horizon is that all MMFA students will be set-up with Austin Public Library accounts which includes access to all of the online resources such as ebooks, audiobooks, and research materials. There will be no physical library cards, but instead students will use their student ids and password provided by their teacher.

How to help?

Beyond volunteering, we would be so excited to include any of your gently used, high interest books - the kind that your kid would be excited to share with a friend.

We are looking for read aloud picture books, early readers, chapter books, graphic novels, newer reference books, and appealing nonfiction in English and Spanish.

You can drop books off in the office throughout October. Have books to donate after October? Contact us at the email below or hold onto them for the book sale in February.

How do I become a library squad member?

Sign up for a shift here! Or, reach out to Kam, Christan and Suzie via email and put “library squad” in the subject line - fom@montessoriforall.org. Include the classroom name(s) you would like to volunteer in and the times you are available.

Volunteer duties could include:

  • Helping organize a classroom collection

  • Communicating with guides and assistant guides to see what books the classroom needs

  • For the school mobile collection, rolling the library cart to the classroom and spending 20-30 minutes helping students choose books and scan their choices into the system (all you need is a smartphone and the libib app).

Please consider joining the squad!
