Let’s answer your questions!

This FAQ is here to answer your questions about what does Families of Magnolia do and some general questions that a Magnolia Family might have in general.

  • Families of Magnolia, or FOM, is Magnolia’s “PTO” or “PTA” (Parent Teacher Organization/Association"). We’re called Families of Magnolia to be inclusive of all families in our community.

There are no fees to join. If your child attends our school, then you’re automatically a part of FOM!

FOM raises thousands of dollars each year that goes directly back to our school community for programs, events, classroom materials, and additional support.

Our mission is to support families and staff in ways that improve the best educational experience of our children.

We support families by working towards better communication between the school and home, by building a community of safety and support between families, and by connecting families with community resources should anyone need help with basic needs.

We support staff by raising funds for programs, training and materials, by taking care of time/labor intensive manual work for them, and by appreciating staff through gifts and food throughout the year.

  • YES! We have Fall Family Kick-off at the beginning of the school year, and a Spring Family Kick-off after winter break.

These fun, evening events feature pizza (provided by FOM) and potluck (provided by you!). As we gather to get to know each other better, we also use this time to share the events we are planning throughout the semester, hear feedback from families, and to share opportunities for everybody to get involved in FOM.

We also have open monthly board meetings that we welcome any and all parent/guardians to attend.

  • Every week, Magnolia updates all families with important information through the Monarch Memo.

This a vital link for families to hear about what's happening at school, directly from the administration, and FOM--in one email! It’s very important that all families receive and read these weekly updates.

Read the latest, and past issues here, and if you aren’t subscribed, subscribe here.

  • Yes! Magnolia has a Facebook group, moderated by the school leadership team. It’s a pretty active community, and a great way for enrolled families to connect with each other. (Maybe that’s how you found this site?) If you’re interested, check it out here.

While lots of school information is shared on the facebook page, it’s important to note that all official communication comes from the Monarch Memo (mentioned above) so definitely make sure you are subscribed and reading it!

  • Limited aftercare is offered by Boys and Girls Club, and there are various extracurricular activities throughout the year.

Please contact Ms. Claudia in the office for more details.

  • Checkout FOM's School Resources Page for logistical information like drop-off procedures, maps for parking, uniform policies, the official school calendar, and more!

Additionally, check out the official website for Magnolia Montessori for All.

  • Check out the Calendars page on the FOM website for links to:

    • The school's official calendar

    • A "snapshot" calendar of events that's great for the fridge

    • A Google Calendar that you can subscribe to to stay informed digitally!

  • YES!

If you’re wondering if FOM needs your help… the answer is always yes! ;-)

FOM is entirely run by volunteer family members of the school, for the good of the school. It truly takes a village to keep a school going, and whether you are willing to help out once, or on an ongoing basis--please reach out.

You can email us at fom@montessoriforall.org, or use the contact form on the get involved page.

(Again... the answer is yes.) Well... Yes, please! :-D

  • There really are! Many events are run by FOM, and many are run by the school directly.

Take a look at the Event Description page for details on all the events throughout the year.

The monthly calendar is another great resource for events and holidays.

  • Board members are elected each school year to oversee a certain area.

The FOM Board meets about once a month to discuss ideas, issues, needs, and ways to improve the school, and votes on how to spend the money. All parents/guardians are always welcome to attend these board meetings.

If you'd like to contact the board, check out our Meet the Board page, or email us at fom@montessoriforall.org.

  • Yes!

Each year FOM sets aside a specific amount just for grants, which used to be just for staff, but now are open to families and students!

Grants are available for needs, materials, and experiences that go beyond what is offered by the school. Families or students can apply to these grants for things like improvements to your classroom community or campus, after school clubs or anything that benefits the student body.

FOM will take into consideration the total number of kids impacted; grants are more likely to be awarded to requests that benefit all of Magnolia, Upper Elementary, Lower Elementary, or Children's House over those for an individual community if we need to decide between two requests. Read about and apply for a grant here!

  • FOM operates a uniform closet of FREE gently used uniforms that are available year round. Families can "shop" for free during our uniform shopping event at the beginning of the year, AND throughout the year by asking at the front desk.

Families who would like to donate clean, gently used uniform clothing items to our closet, are welcome to donate at the front desk, anytime.

You do not need to donate uniforms to take advantage of the free used uniforms available in the uniform closet.

  • Officially, Magnolia does not celebrate Halloween and the children do not dress up for school, nor are there schoolwide celebrations for Valentine’s Day.

Your community may do something small, and in that case your Lead Guide will let you know.
